EPA Anticipates 99% Dioxin Decline from Municipal Combustors/Incinerators

A new report issued by the EPA Office of Air Quality Planning and Standards, "Latest Findings on National Air Quality," includes news of the significant success of air toxics reductions programs. According to the report, U.S. air toxics emissions will be cut by almost 1.5 million tons from 1990 levels when technology-based emissions standards for industrial and combustion sources are fully implemented. At that time, dioxin emissions from municipal waste combustors and incinerators will have been reduced by approximately 99% and mercury emissions by 95%. The full report may be accessed at:
