Dioxin Data: Releases of Dioxin to the Air, Water and Land Surface
Data on the quantities of dioxin emitted to the air and water and applied to the land surface. Air emissions include fugitive emissions (those from other than a point source) and stack emissions. These releases are not contained. These releases are comparable to those in US EPA's Inventory of Sources and Environmental Releases of Dioxin-like Compounds.

Dioxin Data: Disposal in Underground Injection Wells and Landfills
Data on the quantities of dioxin disposed of and contained in underground injection wells and hazardous and other types of landfills. Dioxin-containing wastes disposed of in landfills and underground injection wells are contained and removed from contact with the public. Underground injection wells are used to bury materials well below the surface of the Earth and away from drinking water sources. Landfills are carefully designed (using clay and polymer linings, covers and leachate drainage systems) to contain hazardous materials without leakage and contamination of the environment.

Dioxin Data: Transfers to Off-site Locations
Data on the quantities of dioxin transferred to off-site: wastewater facilities, incineration facilities and landfills.

Dioxin Data: Source Reduction Activities
Data on the quantities of dioxin: used for energy recovery, treated, recycled and recovered from the environment through remediation activities. (In the year 2000, 230 g-TEQ of dioxin were removed from the environment by remediation activities.) The majority of dioxin in this category was treated. Treatment of dioxin-containing waste is most often accomplished by destruction in hazardous waste incinerators.
